Episode #14 – The Joys and Challenges of Isolation
Cooped up inside? Going stir crazy? You’re not alone. Fortunately we have a lot of entertainment at our fingertips to try and keep us sane. In fact some of our favorite pieces of nostalgia are about isolation itself, which comes in handy…especially if one of the hosts of the podcast had COVID-19 (no, really!). Listen to us talk about isolation and add our voices to the ones already inside your head.
Episode #13 – Viruses We Love
We get it. Hysteria is everywhere and the last thing you want to do is hear more talk about a virus! Well, what if we talked about viruses we actually like? In this episode we chat about Pac-Man Fever, Cyrus the Virus, and discover a long-forgotten toy line about germs. All this plus Bryan discovers Slim Goodbody for the first time in this episode of Wayback Attack. Listen and enjoy, but be sure to wash your hands!
Episode #12 – The Power of Invisibility!
Invisibility is back in the spotlight, thanks to the new movie The Invisible Man. In this episode, we share our thoughts on the new movie, take a look back at some earlier instances of invisibility, and take a deeper dive into the oft-forgotten John Carpenter movie Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Come be an (invisible) fly on the wall for another great episode!
In-Between #3 – Toy Fair 2020, ’80s Escape Rooms, & Ice Cream Arcade
We look at some of the latest, not-so-new toy announcements to come out of Toy Fair 2020. From The Real Ghostbusters to Tiger Electronics handhelds, we have opinions about these retro releases. Also on the show: an attempt to create an ’80s escape room for Wayback Weekend, and Bryan’s hunt for coffee leads him to ice cream and an arcade instead.
Episode #11 – ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ & Video Game Movies
The new Sonic the Hedgehog movie is surprisingly good, however, that’s not always the case for video game movies. Join us as we take a deep-dive into the new Sonic movie and a closer look at two box office flops that show how NOT to make a video game into a movie. Grab your popcorn…this is Wayback Attack!
Episode #10 – Pop Culture Cupids
Love is in the air! While Valentine’s Day is often considered a lesser holiday, it’s still an important cultural affair. In this episode, we take a closer look at the symbol of the lover’s holiday and magnify some obscure references to Cupid in pop culture, including Urkel, Johnny Carson, and Elmer Fudd. Take aim and let it fly… this is Wayback Attack!
Episode #9 – Themed Hotels: Atari, Nickelodeon, & More!
By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard the news that there will be a new string of Atari-themed hotels breaking ground in 2020. What you may not remember are the dozens of other themed hotels and resorts of the past and present. Listen along as we discuss such classics as Legoland, the Nickelodeon Hotel & Resort, and even Excalibur’s WCW Nitro Grill!
Episode #8 – Super AD Bowl
After a holiday hiatus, the Wayback Attack podcast returns with this look at Super Bowl ads past and present, and we identify some winners and losers in this tried-and-true tradition. Plus, Bryan witnesses the Super Bowl Shuffle for the first time. Enjoy!
Episode #7 – Santa, Baby!
Ho! Ho! Ho! The big guy's annual arrival is almost here, so we take a look back at some of our favorite weird and wacky Santas in pop culture. We hope this special Christmas episode makes your belly shake when you laugh like a bowl full of jelly!
In-Between #2: IAAPA, Antiques, & Free Play Florida
It’s our second “in-between” episode and we’ve got some catching up to do. Listen as Preston discusses his recent trips to the annual International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo and the retrogaming show Free Play Florida. Meanwhile, Bryan learned about the past and is getting ready for the future of the “social” movie experience.
